Girls run Race For Life!

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Team Marylebone Physio is running Race For Life! Our Practice Manager Holly, Pilates Instructor Ashleigh and Receptionist Jess have signed up for Race for Life on Sunday 18th July in Hyde Park.  This is to raise money for Cancer Research UK, Cancer Research put on a series of Women’s only running events throughout the summer.  The atmosphere at these events is amazing, completely non competitive and a real feeling of people coming together determined to make a difference.

We’ve got trainers, sports bras, shorts. Now all we need are some new Marylebone Physio tops – watch this space.

We really appreciate all donations, no matter how big or small – so if you’d like to sponsor us then please see our Just Giving page.

Alternatively you can make a donation in Reception at the clinic.

It was cold and raining, and just how I wanted to spend my Bank Holiday Sunday running 13.1 miles through Exeter’s city centre.  Me and my two sisters had signed up for The Great West run one evening in a wave of enthusiasm, and possible temporary brain dysfunction.   The course is not the easiest, short steep hills and looooong slow climbs designed to sap at your positivity and energy.  The worst part about the race though is the double lap! So as we struggled up previously mentioned long slow hill the elite runners come sprinting back past you, all long limbs and muscly arms.  Family cheering (and taking hideous photos) at the top of the hills was the best bit of the day! Despite the rain the Exeter crowds were out in full force with sponges, water stations and handing out jelly babies and shouting encouragement to everyone. Vowing to myself I wouldn’t put my body through this again, as I crossed the finish line at Exeter Arena I was already planning my next run – the pain is only temporary!

All three of us completed it and have raised over £1300 for Cancer Research – if you have any spare change and want to sponsor us please see our Just Giving Page.

Before the race - cold but excited!

Warm coffee at the end

That’s right I have signed up to the Great West run half marathon on the 2nd May this year in Exeter! Despite doing this gruelling route last year it seems that my body has erased the painful memories of practically limping across the finish line to sign up again! I’m running with two of my sisters to raise money for Cancer Research, a very personal charity for us. We aim to finish with a respectable time :-)

Last year I managed to get myself into all sorts of strife through not stretching or doing much strength work, so this year I am trying to remember to religiously stretch with a foam roller (this hurts), strengthening up my legs and bum in the Pilates studio with Ashleigh and Alona, and stretching my muscles with Ryan in Yoga.

We massively appreciate any support or sponsorship for Cancer Research – you can sponsor me on our justgiving page.
